Hello there.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm glad you're here.

I am a freelance illustrator from Austin Texas. Like most illustrators, I can't remember a time when I didn't love to draw. Some of my early art even earned me a trip to the school counselor's office (sorry mom and dad!). When I was 10 years old I toured the animation studios at Disneyland to see the process of making the feature film, the Lion King. I was in awe of the idea that you could draw for a living and have dreamed of making art for children ever since.

I completed the Texas Creative sequence at the University of Texas at Austin and I have a Bachelor of Science in Advertising (I chose commercial art so that I wouldn't starve). I had a great career as a graphic designer for 10 years, during which I dabbled in drawing and oil painting in my spare time. I always got excited when there was an illustration-heavy design project I could work on and I was constantly wishing I could spend more of my time drawing and painting. Meanwhile, my son was at just the right age where picture books were heavy on the rotation for bedtime reading. This became a daily reminder of my unfulfilled dream to write and illustrate for children. Finally, in September of 2015, my youngest son was born and I found myself in a position to make a change. I decided to seize the opportunity to pursue children's book illustration.

I attended my first SCBWI Austin conference a few months later with a tiny portfolio of five illustrations I put together after registering for the conference. To my complete surprise, I was chosen for the Emerging Voice Illustrator Mentorship with Marsha Riti and have spent the last year receiving career guidance working closely with her on my portfolio. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful that I have had the opportunity to begin my journey in kidlit with such a talented published illustrator at my disposal. I am also a proud member of the Puddle Jump Collective.

When I'm not drawing and dreaming up new story ideas, you will probably find me cooking, hanging out with my husband, playing with our two little boys and two dogs, or doing yoga (I am also a 200-hour certified power yoga instructor).
